Ionic Aggregates in Zn- and Na-neutralized Poly(ethylene-ran-methacrylic acid)

چکیده
The morphology of ionic aggregates in semi-crystalline Znand Na-neutralized poly(ethylene-ran-methacrylic acid) (EMAA) ionomer blown films has been explored with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS). The ionic aggregates of Zn-EMAA are spherical, monodisperse and uniformly-distributed in as-extruded pellets and blown films prepared at low and high blow-up ratio. Thus, although the biaxial stresses of film blowing are sufficient to alter the PE superstructure, the ionic aggregates in Zn-EMAA are unaffected. In contrast, the morphology of Na-EMAA as detected by STEM changes from featureless in the as-extruded pellets to a heterogeneous distribution of Na-rich aggregates in the blown films. This transformation in Na-EMAA morphology is consistent with our earlier study of quiescent annealing suggesting that the morphological change is the result of thermal processing rather than the biaxial stresses of film blowing. Rate dependent finite deformation stress–strain behavior of an ethylene methacrylic acid copolymer and an ethylene methacrylic acid butyl acrylate copolymer
The large strain deformation behaviors of an ethylene methacrylic acid (EMAA) copolymer and an ethylene methacrylic acid butyl acrylate (EMAABA) copolymer are evaluated and compared in compression over nearly eight orders of magnitude in strain rate, from 10 4 to almost 104/s. Transition regimes are quantified using dynamic mechanical analysis. The stress–strain behavior of these copolymers exh...
متن کاملControlled release by using poly (methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol ) hydrogels
Graft copolymers of poly (ethylene glycol) with poly (methacrylic acid) were prepared by reaction of poly (ethylene glycol) methacrylate macromonomer with methacrylic acid in the presence of tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinking agent. The materials were swollen in aqueous solutions with the pH ranging from 1.5 to 12.0. Dynamic swelling studies were performed. The swelling rates...
متن کاملThe role of clusters on the healing efficiency of a modified Zn based ionomer
Poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) (EMAA) ionomers have shown healing capabilities in both ballistic and static tests. In previous studies it was shown that the degree of crosslinking (clusters) affects (positively or negatively) the healing under impact tests. Moreover, it has also been reported that the modification of the ionomers by additives leads to different healing behaviours under stat...
متن کاملTowards bilirubin imprinted poly(methacrylic acid-co-ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate) for the specific binding of -bilirubin
With -bilirubin as a molecular template, polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) was carried out with the aid of the initiator 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and the cross-linking agent ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate (EGDMA). Bulk polymerization was successfully carried out so that poly(methacrylic acid-co-ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate) (poly(MAA-EGDMA)) imprinted with -bilirubin was f...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Complexation/Decomplexation Phenomena in Graft Copolymer Networks
Graft copolymer networks of poly(methacrylic acid-g-ethylene glycol) exhibiting pHdependent swelling behavior due to the formation of interpolymer complexes were prepared by free radical solution polymerization of methacrylic acid and poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate. Dynamic swelling studies established the swelling/deswelling process due to hydrogen bonding. Additionally, the effects of...
